“Danish Dynamite“ in the World Championship

All Danish driver-line-up with Nygaard, Poulsen and Simonsen

12.04.2013 - GTE

Young Driver AMR is back on the international stage of motor racing: Starting with this weekends 6 hours of Silverstone, Young Driver AMR will take part in FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) in close partnership with Aston Martin Racing. For the 2013 campaign, that will see Young Driver AMR racing in Europe - including the iconic 24h of Le Mans, and worldwide in the US, Brazil, China, Japan and Bahrain, the teams has strengthened it’s partnership with Aston Martin Racing. The Aston Martin works-team will enter and prepare the #95 Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin Vantage GTE in the eight-round world championship. The V8-powered Vantage GTE will be driven by an all-Danish driver line-up of Christoffer Nygaard, Kristian Poulsen and Allan Simonsen and is entered in the highly competitive GTE-Am-class.

This weekend’s 6h hours of Silverstone (April 14th) mark the start of the 2013 FIA WEC and will be the debut race of the Aston Martin Racing/Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin Vantage GTE in the World Championship. Silverstone will not mark the first event, the „Danish Dynamite" trio of Nygaard, Poulsen and Simonsen will race together. All three drivers were also part of the joint Aston Martin Racing/Young Driver AMR assault in last year’s 24h of Le Mans, the world’s most famous motor race. All three driver’s prepared for their first season in the FIA WEC with an extensive pre-season test at Sebring/USA, just after the famous 12h of Sebring in March.

“We are really looking forward to the start of the season and with the Aston Martin Vantage GTE. We have not only one of the quickest cars in the GTE-class and the best possible support of Aston Martin Racing, we also have a driver line-up, that can be considered as of the best in the GTE-Am-class“, Young Driver AMR´s Jan Struve says. „Our goal this season is to finish on the podium at the series masterpiece event, the 24h of Le Mans, and we expect to have a fair chance to fight for the world championship in the GTE-Am class.”

Christoffer Nygaard is excited before the first round of the season: „I don’t really now all of our competitors in the GTE-Am-class, so it’s a bit hard to judge before the first race of the season. But we had a very successful test and the car felt really good. Considering we also showed a good performance at the 24h Le Mans last season, where we even lead our class sometime during the during the race, I expect that we will have a good chance this weekend. Silverstone is the home track of Aston Martin and I’m really optimistic that we will be capable of a podium finish this weekend.”

“We expect to fight for the podium at Silverstone and I would be disappointed, if we don’t finish within the top-three in class this weekend“, Allan Simonsen says. “But we also have to consider, that it’s the first event of the season and Aston Martin Racing is a big team which enters four cars in the World Championship, so clearly everything has to find it’s way at the first and also the second event of the season. But Silverstone is home of Aston Martin and also Aston Martin Racing, so this adds some extra motivation to give Aston Martin a good result on their home ground.”
