Young Driver AMR sets target on World Championship

After winning Le Mans, Young Driver AMR targets World Championship

17.09.2014 - GTE

The biggest challenge is archived, now Young Driver AMR sets the target on the next big goal in the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC). After winning the GTE-Am class of the 24h of Le Mans in June with the Aston Martin Racing entered Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin Vantage GTE, Young Driver AMR sets it’s target on winning the World Championship. After a long summer break, the World Championship is back on track with round four at the fabulous “Circuit of the Americas” at Austin in Texas. Kristian Poulsen and David Heinemeier Hansson, current GTE Am class world championship leaders, will share the Aston Martin in Texas with Richie Stanaway from New Zealand, who claimed his first ever WEC Pole Position at „COTA“ last season and raced with Young Driver AMR already at Spa in May.
„Winning at Le Mans meant everything to us“, Young Driver AMR´s Jan Struve reflects the biggest success of his team so far. „Even three month after Le Mans it’s unbelievable and makes us smile every day. With the Le Mans win in the books, we would like to make the season perfect and win the world championship. Le Mans was our goal number one, now we work on goal number two. It will not be very easy, as there are five rounds ahead of us with 30 hours of racing. We have a solid gap in the championship and we will start with a careful approach in the balance five races in order to maintain our gap until the final race.”
The Formula One track in Texas hosts the FIA WEC for a second time. Last season, Young Driver AMR finished second in class at the series debut at Texas after a dramatic battle in the last laps. With a solid lead in the championship, after two victories and another podium finish, all three drivers are looking for another good result.
„I really like the track at Austin and last year, our Aston Martin was really strong there“, Poulsen days, who even topped his second Le Mans class win after he became father the day after Le Mans. „After the summer break, which feels longer then the winter break, we expect the competition to be stronger then at the first six hour races of the season. The most important thing for Austin and also for the remaining races of the season is to finish the races. In the championship it’s looking quite good for us, even if we have still five races ahead of us. If we have clean races and don’t take unnecessary risk, it should be looking very promising for us.”
After three of eight world championship rounds, Young Driver AMR leads the team’s championship by 29 points. Poulsen and Heinemeier Hansson have the same gap in the driver’s championship.
The fourth round of the FIA WEC at Austin will start Saturday, 20th September, in the late afternoon at 17:00 hours local time and will finish in complete darkness at 23:00 hours. Eurosport will broadcast the entire race live starting Saturday at midnight, Livetiming and Livestream are available on the series website
