New challenge starts for Young Driver AMR

2

10.04.2015 - GTE

Young Driver AMR starts into a new challenge at this weekends opening round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at Silverstone in England. After winning the GTE-Am-class of the WEC in 2014, the team steps up to the GTE-Pro class, the premier class in international GT racing, for it  s third season in the World Championship. At the 6 hours of Silverstone this weekend, the Aston Martin Racing entered Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin Vantage GTE will race in the Pro class for the first time. The all-Danish driver line up of Christoffer Nygaard, Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen will compete against works teams of Porsche und Ferrari in the eight race of the 2015 WEC.

Danish GP2-driver Marco Sørensen is new to Young Driver AMR this season and will make his debut in GT racing at Silverstone. Nicki Thiim starts into his third season with Young Driver AMR, while Christoffer Nygaard is the longest serving driver in the Young Driver AMR program and returns to the #95 Aston Martin, after he competed in a sister car of Aston Martin Racing last season.

„We are very exited about our first race in the GTE-Pro class at Silverstone“, Jan Struve of Young Driver AMR says. „Silverstone is the home track of Aston Martin Racing and has always been very good to us. In the past two seasons we claimed a class victory there. The move to the GTE-Pro class is a true challenge, but with our strong driver line up, we are prepared for this challenge in the best possible way. The competition is really strong in this class and we are convinced that we can play a very good role in it.”

Eurosport will broadcast the final hour from Silverstone live Sunday 12th April starting 18:00 hours (CET).

Driver quotes:

Marco Sørensen: „During pre season testing, I drove the Aston Martin in Spain and France and I  m very comfortable with the car. Silverstone will be my first race ever in a car with a roof and with doors, so I’m quite excited about this. I’m really confident that our team will be strong and able to fight for podium positions.”

Nicki Thiim: „I don’t remember when I was last time so exited about the start of a new season. We had a brilliant season last year, but now we are starting in the Pro class, where the competition is extremely close. For a racing driver, there is no such good thing then fierce competition, therefore I’m really looking forward. Our car is proven and our driver line-up is excellent. With Marco Sørensen we now have a great and really quick new addition. I’m sure we will be very strong this year.“

Christoffer Nygaard: “We changed the class, but the goal remains the same: To go as quick as possible. I’m very happy about our move to the Pro class. The competition in this class is very high, for a racing driver this is a real challenge. With very close gaps, we have to pay even more attention to detail, then we already did before. There may be only six competitors in our class, but in each car are the best GT drivers on this planet and every car is capable to win.”
